I am new to Ohio and Lakeview High School! My husband and I recently moved to Cortland from Pennsylvania. We both grew up around the Pittsburgh area, but started our careers in Warren and Bradford, PA (the northern tip of PA, bordering New York). I taught at Bradford Area High School for five years, and loved every minute of it! Working with young people is inspiring; as much as I teach my students, they, in return, teach me too. While a teacher at BAHS, I taught sophomore English and Reading Intervention, as well as created and taught the AP Language and Composition course. Additionally, I co-directed the school plays. It was a very special experience co-directing the school plays, because I got to witness students excel or watch a new passion blossom. I firmly believe all students have the ability to excel (at many different things - in school and out of school), and I consider myself lucky that I get to help make - and watch - that happen every day.
To help prepare myself to become an informative English teacher, I majored in English literature and composition at Penn State University. After I graduated from Penn State, I attended The University of Pittsburgh to obtain my 7-12 English teaching certificate. Once I received my certification, I continued my education, and received my Masters in English Education at the University of Pittsburgh. I love learning. I can't imagine not going back to school to further my education even more. I hope to instill that same passion for learning in my students. I recognize that not all students love being "students" - school beyond high school is not for everyone; however, I do urge all students to question, find solutions, and create, which can all be done outside the classroom.
With that said, I look forward to sharing my knowledge this school year, as well as obtaining new knowledge from my students. If ever you need to get in touch with me, you can email me at [email protected]. I check my email every day.
